Belarus activist Ales Bialiatski, the Russian group Memorial and the Ukrainian organization Center for Civil Liberties won the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize amid the Ukraine crisis. Their reward for contributions to human rights, democracy and peaceful coexistence was also a strong rebuke to Russian President Vladimir Putin and his authoritarian ally, the Belarusian president.
As for the Nobel Prize in literature, French author Annie Ernaux won the award for blending fiction and autobiography in books that based on her experiences as a workingclass woman to explore life in France since the 1940s. She has probed deeply personal experiences and feelings within a society divided by gender and class.
Furthermore, with the research into bank failures, former Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke and two U.S.-based economists, Douglas W. Diamond and Philip Dybvig won the Nobel Prize in economics. Their work built on lessons learned in the Great Depression and helped shape America’s response to the 2008 financial crisis showing the importance of avoiding bank collapses.
