More than 100 people were killed on Armed Forces Day, March 27th in Myanmar, marking the deadliest day of protests since the February 1st military coup. The military continued a brutal, countrywide crackdown on pro-democracy protesters. More than 500 people have been killed.
“They are killing us like birds or chickens, even in our homes,” said a resident. “We will keep protesting regardless. We must fight until the junta falls.”
The military’s killing of peaceful protesters has shocked the conscience of the international community. The United States suspended a trade agreement with Myanmar on March 29th until democracy is restored in the country. “The United States supports the people of Myanmar in their efforts to restore a democratically elected government,” said U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai.
